At
the Wonder
Collaborative,
we are committed to telling stories about science that matter — whether highlighting the wonder and impact surrounding the discovery of CRISPR in the film HUMAN NATURE or exposing the pervasive discrimination women face in science through the film PICTURE A SCIENTIST. Our films seek to capture the essence, complexity, and process of science while also showcasing diverse voices within the community.
PICTURE A SCIENTIST,
which recently debuted on NOVA, has had a tremendous outreach campaign that has included some 1,400 community screenings at institutions worldwide and a novel research collaboration with social scientists. We’ve heard from many of you about the need for more discussions around equity in science, especially addressing racism and acknowledging intersectionality. For a series of new films currently in early development with our partners at the Wonder Collaborative, the PICTURE A SCIENTIST team is researching novel attempts to make science more equitable and inclusive.
A series of new films
will feature characters, institutions, and communities forging a new path for future scientists. The films will provide a glimpse of the challenges and struggles faced by scientists from historically marginalized communities, and explore the ways in which these scientists are already changing the landscape and very definition of science.
We want not only to provide an intimate glimpse of what’s really involved in making the culture of science more diverse, equitable, and inclusive, but also to open source our filmmaking process — bringing you, our viewers, along the journey.
